That's a legitimate question, and in the week since we launched I've been asked specifically about literary nonfiction and poetry, the latter being especially on people's minds this month. The easy answer is that we can only do so much, and fiction's is where I suspect most of us participating here feel most comfortable as readers. I know I wouldn't claim to be anything even remotely resembling an expert on poetry, and though I do read a lot of nonfiction in my professional capacity as a book reviewer, I'd have to say that the category's just way too large. You'd have to break the memoirs out from the histories from the science books from the biographies from the criticism...
So fiction's a lot easier to deal with, that's all. But you know, if there's twenty poetbloggers out there who want to replicate what we do, or twenty historians, or twenty scientists, I'd be thrilled to see them have at it. This experiment isn't about the individual bloggers taking part in it; it's about the power of focused enthusiasm by dedicated readers expressing themselves in unison. We aren't a "power bloc" that's going to fight for blogosphere supremacy; we just want to tell you about some books that we think you might enjoy. We're happily sharing space online with the Girlfriends Cyber Circuit as they do their bit to promote each other's chick-lit, for example, and if I knew of other groups up to similar hijinx, I'd name them. Maybe you can do that for me in the comments section...
