Over the course of the next week we will post a schedule for author and editor visits, as well as a moderator-led discussion. Additionally, next Monday May 23 we will post The Minority Opinion, in which LBC members who were less enthusiastic about the selection can weigh in. And then on the four subsequent Mondays we will share the titles of the other four books we considered, as described by the bloggers who nominated them.
Also, please note that Powells is offering a 30% discount on Case Histories - and no, LBC makes no money from this arrangement.
Finally, Lizzie's point bears repeating - although many will correctly observe that Case Histories was covered in the mainstream media, Kate Atkinson is scarcely a household name. Those of us who follow publishing can be guilty of a myopia that assumes that if we're aware of a book, everyone else must be as well. In reality, this is not always the case. And for those who were aware of the book but passed it by, you now have a reason to consider revisiting it.
There's much fun, excitement and discussion planned ahead (the next five nominators are already looking ahead to Autumn) but for now we reiterate Lizzie's call:
READ THIS!
Case Histories was pretty good I thought, but I've read better books than that just the last month.

I think it's an excellent choice because it's calling my much-read attention to a book I hadn't bothered with yet. And may I recommend considering Kevin Canty's Winslow in Love next time out? I'm reading it now - great stuff!

Well count me in on the group that might not have read CASE HISTORIES had it not been recommended by a trusted friend. Kudo's to Ms. Atkinson. It was wonderful.
