Some of you may have seen an article in the Times of London about the LBC getting paid to plug Case Histories. We don't expect anybody would actually confuse the British radio station in question with our own tiny operation--and although we briefly thought of changing our name to avoid confusion, apparently the acronym we'd use for the Book Blog Co-op is also fairly common in England. Go figure.
Anyway, nobody gave us 10,000 pounds to recommend Case Histories--heck, I suspect that even if we wanted to sell out, there's no way all twenty-some of us would ever be able to agree on which publishing overlords we'd embrace. But what really amuses me about this interlude is the condescending attitude of that other LBC's public relations flak: "Anyone (who) is a savvy radio listener will be aware of how advertisements and sponsorship works. It is not the sort of thing you would explain to a punter." At this LBC, we don't think of you as punters, but as fellow readers. If you're willing to take our opinions on literature seriously, we're willing to return the favor--and to always let you know exactly where we're coming from.
Ten thousand pounds! That's the precise weight in gold dore of the House Ethics Committee. Can this be a mere coincidence?

If you want to know what God thinks of power and money, just look at the people he gave it to.

CODA: Case closed - As they say, even among twenty people, it is awfully hard to get people interested in corruption unless they can get some of it ;-)
